GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for identifying and supporting departmental efficiencies for switchboard, scheduling, registration, and patient reception/discharge. Duties include coverage for all identified areas and working closely with the Patient Access Supervisor to ensure staffing, scheduling and delivery of an exceptional patient experience.

- *Interviews and registers incoming patients in person; obtains and data enters patient demographic and financial information in the Bryan Heart computer systems; ensures data integrity, completeness and confidentiality in a variety of areas as assigned by supervisor.
- *Effectively manages calls from providers both internal and external to Bryan Heart and strives towards exceptional customer service in all interactions.
- *Uses the electronic medical record to task nursing staff with appropriate caller information, identifying which critical information can be sent as a task and which ones are urgent requests that cannot wait.
- *Performs a variety of clerical duties including entering patient data into the computer, scanning, and cataloging documents into the electronic medical record.
- *Understands and operationalizes federal regulations regarding COBRA, Medicare, OSHA and HIPAA; reports safety and customer concerns.
- *Supports the financial goals of Bryan Heart by ensuring timely collection of patient deductibles, co-insurance and deposits; identifies underinsured, uninsured and self-pay patients for immediate referral to patient accounts.
- Works directly with the Patient Access Supervisor to operationalize new/revised policies/procedures.
- Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities.
- Assists in training and onboarding of new hires on specific duties utilizing training manuals and on-the-job coaching.
- *Follows Bryan Heart protocols in communicating and releasing patient information.
- *Calls primary care physicians and/or patients to relay special instructions for procedures or appointments.
- *Manages incoming patient referrals and schedules new patient, post-op and follow-up appointments.
- Supports Out-State Clinic Coordinator in scheduling appointments for out-state clinics, as necessary.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalency required. Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years work experience in a medical office setting required.
