GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides advanced design and insight to help key leaders and teams at Bryan Health solve problems and make data-driven decisions. Provides tailored quantitative and data-centered support, serving as a data analytics expert and point person for their specified teams and leaders. Works on medium and complex, cross-functional business intelligence solutions, working on multiple tasks and projects as a member of the Data Analytics team. Responsible for scoping, analysis, and analytics product creation (visualizations, reports, summary insights, etc.) for their supported teams. Actively researches current and future business problems and works closely with internal staff to gain in-depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, and the context in which the business operates. Uses advanced understanding of operations and advanced stakeholder relations to continuously elevate the analysis and business intelligence solutions.   Coaches/mentors team members and is a master on providing exceptional technical skill and customer service. Engages directly with operations and consulting operations leads on business intelligence solutions and is the point-person that drives action for end-users.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Leads work stream planning processes including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of business intelligence solutions.
  3. *Works seamlessly with internal and external customers and IT staff to develop and analyze business intelligence needs.
  4. Interprets business requirements and performs analysis using a variety of quantitative methods, identifying and extracting key insights and trends.  
  5. Provides understanding of data, multiple database structures and their applications in the reporting environment and manages data (base) interaction with the tools they support (administer).
  6. Works collaboratively with database development and other teams to ensure data models and structures are designed and architected to meet the reporting and dashboard requirements.
  7. *Creates, modifies, and distributes reports displaying data (i.e., Epic Clarity and Caboodle data).
  8. *Advanced knowledge in SQL and configures settings for custom SQL metrics.
  9. Expert in designing enterprise-wide visualizations and custom reports for non-technical users.
  10. *Expertly performs analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms (Excel, PowerPoint, Epic, Power BI, etc.).
  11. *Analyzes historical data and information to monitor patterns and operational performance for departments and service lines, including cost benefit analyses when appropriate.
  12. *Actively researches business problems and creates data models that help analyze these business problems.
  13. *Trains users to transform data into action-oriented information and to use that information correctly.
  14. Mentors others on SQL and other tools, and building and maintaining such items as: Cubes, Extracts, Self-Service reporting tools custom filters, Third-Party business intelligence tools.
  15. Researches and recommends tools, frameworks and mechanisms for data analytics and information quality metrics.
  16. Continually educates end-users, working to advance the organization’s use of data and business intelligence solutions.
  17. May provide performance feedback of lower-level staff.
  18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  19. Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects as assigned.
  20. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

In addition to the principal job functions contained on the primary job descriptions, the following duties are also required in the department noted above.

  1. *Provides tailored quantitative and data-centered support, serving as a data analytics expert and point person for the teams and leaders in organizational quality and associated operational departments to develop quality and regulatory related analytical content.
  2. *Utilizes key Epic quality measures and quality content to drive organizational change and quality improvements.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Expert knowledge and experience in designing enterprise-wide visualizations and custom reports for non-technical users.
  2. Significant, demonstrated history in SQL for querying and manipulating large datasets.
  3. Significant, demonstrated knowledge of health care operations and common systems (i.e., quality, pharmacy, nursing, emergency department, hospital billing, etc.).
  4. Knowledge of current industry standards for business intelligence development, tools, techniques, procedures, as well as data warehouse, ETL architecture, including both dimensional models (star/snowflake) and relational models.
  5. Knowledge of Informatica or similar data governance and meta-data management tools helpful.
  6. Significant, demonstrated skill in written and verbal communication, presentations, critical thinking and analytical thinking.
  7. Skill in various Epic reporting modules as well as Reporting Workbench and Business Objects.
  8. Skill in developing dashboard solutions using Power BI, Epic RADAR, Epic SlicerDicer, and other comparable tools.
  9. Significant, demonstrated ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  10. Ability to solve real-world business problems by designing and building queries sourced from OLAP (online analytical processing) cubes, applying data mining algorithms, writing queries, and designing reports using various toolsets and a SQL Server data warehouse.
  11. Ability to demonstrate extensive experience with report development using various tools (Power BI, Excel, etc.). 
  12. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  13. Demonstrated ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, and common outpatient quality program requirements – including but not limited to - IPPS and MIPS.
  2. Strong ability to understand and educate stakeholders on CMS and HEDIS quality measures and value sets.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Hospital Administration, Business, Data Analytics, Computer Science or Information Systems required. Five (5) years of experience with data management, data interpretation and analysis including writing complex queries and stored procedures with Microsoft SQL Server required. Three (3) years of experience with Epic Clarity, Caboodle,  Data Model and report writing experience preferred.

 

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Epic certification in two or more application modules for business intelligence required within six (6) months of hire.  Epic Clarity, Caboodle and Data Model certification required within six (6) months of hire.

Must have internet connectivity off-premises in order to respond to work requests when necessary.

Per leader’s discretion – If assigned to drive Bryan owned vehicles, a valid driver’s license, and verification and maintenance of responsible driving record per facility standards required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Experience with regulatory surveys and compliance strongly preferred.  Clinical designation strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

Characterized as sedentary work required the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including a human body.

This position is responsible for working with all assigned areas, including all entity locations. Regular Travel (including overnight) may be required based on the needs of the organization.
