Merrick Medical Center/Bryan Health is looking to hire a full-time Athletic Trainer to help with our Sport Medicine Team.

We are looking for a self-motivated, energetic team member to help assist our Sports Medicine Team and help provide athletic training coverage to Central City Public School and to provide outreach service to area schools.

Looking for someone with a great work ethic and attitude. Experience preferred, however new grads are welcome.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the Sports Medicine Medical Director or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with the state athletic training practice act.  Monitors and provides game/contest coverage for athletes at assigned schools for Merrick Medical Center and Merrick Medical Center Sports Medicine. Designs and implements preventative injury programs.  Identifies, evaluates and provides immediate care/referral for athletic injuries.  Acts as a liaison between family physicians, medical specialists, school representatives, athletes, their parents, coaches and athletic directors.

  • Provides athlete consultation, practice coverage and injury tracking documentation for athletes at assigned schools; assists coaching staff with pre-season, in-season and post-season strength and conditioning programs.
  • Provides game/contest coverage for assigned schools as scheduled and athletic training at youth sport venues.
  • Conducts sports medicine clinics and seminars.
  • Provides coverage at athletic camps and local sporting events. 
  • Reviews pre-game and practice taping and preparation with athletes to provide information regarding injury risks; makes recommendations for athlete safety and hydration based on environmental conditions.
  • Acts as liaison between family physicians, medical specialists, school representatives, athletes, their parents, coaches and athletic directors.
  • Provides immediate and emergency care when needed following emergency action protocols and treatment
  • Implements and communicates the use of the baseline concussion management system to all athletes and coaching staff with the utilization of the SCAT 6-Sport Concussion Assessment Tool. Used as a guideline to assess athletes who have sustained a concussion.  
  • Develops treatment programs in accordance with findings of evaluations and goals established by the injury assessment or treating physician.
  • Schedules athlete treatments and/or interventions as necessary per established guidelines.
  • Assesses athlete’s status in response to treatment and modifies program as appropriate and/or in conjunction with treating physician.
  • Presents educational programs for healthy and injured athletes.
  • Works with school administration to develop a budget for athletic training supplies; recommends new equipment and supplies to ensure optimum quality of athlete’s care.
  • Follows established policies and procedures specific to athletic training room and the athletic healthcare program.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.                                                                                                                                

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required. Current Nebraska state license for Athletic Trainer or eligibility to apply for license within 3 months from hire required.  National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) certification required.  Prior athletic training/conditioning experience preferred.

 

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
