GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Provides the administrative oversight and supervision to the Behavioral Health Inpatient and Outpatient Nursing Program areas as outlined in the Bryan Behavioral Health Continuum of Care and Organizational Chart and provides oversight to the Behavioral Health Education and Orientation of Staff and the Quality Measures. Ensures the delivery of high quality, patient-centered care in a manner reflective of the Medical Center's mission, vision and beliefs. Manages the cost centers’ physical, material and human resources, emphasizing staff development and retention strategies. Participates in department, division and organization-wide initiatives focusing on provision of behavioral health services, regulatory compliance and performance improvement.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *In conjunction with Behavioral Health Services Senior Director and other departmental leadership, develops and analyzes new patient programs with input from Medical Center administration and medical staff.

3. *Promotes interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration to optimize efficient and effective patient-centered care delivery.

4. *Develops and initiates service program activities congruent with organizational goals.

5. *Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with corporate, Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.

6. *Empowers staff to actively participate in service/unit and overall practice committees/councils and to operationalize the hospital vision, beliefs and patient-centered principles; mentors staff in quality performance efforts and fosters a "culture" based on continuous improvement.

7. *Reviews and amends the scope of practice statement for the assigned service/unit on an annual basis.

8. *Incorporates age-specific care, with cultural and diversity considerations, in the delivery of patient care; ensures a patient care environment that is safe, clean, clutter-free and customer-focused.

9. *Engages in assigned hospital management, clinical and organizational meetings.

10. In conjunction with Senior Director, develops and manages a capital, operational and human resource budget based on strategic service/unit priorities, best practices and orgaizational strandards; analyzes and solves budget variances.

11. *Interviews, selects and manages staff to demonstrate behaviors consistent with Bryan core values; ensures staff members receive an orientation and ongoing educational development based upon organization and service/unit requirements and individualized employee needs/expectations.

12. Recommends prioritized annual competency requirements based on the needs and scope of the service/unit and identified job performance expectations.

13. *Conducts timely staff performance appraisals ensuring staff competence while emphasizing staff rentention strategies through coaching and individual development.

14. *Promotes evidence-based practice; interprets patient, physician, staff and other customer satisfaction results and strives for improvement; evaluates occurrences, patient, physician and staff concerns and seeks resolution utilizing supportive organization procedures/methods.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Masters degree with a major in Nursing Administration and/or related clinical practice area required. Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in a behavioral health clinical position required. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory or management role required.
