Works with managers, directors, staff and physicians to implement and evaluate education courses/programs for healthcare patient support roles. Accountable for clinical practice educational initiatives to guide the transition of knowledge of various care providers into clinical practice. Responsible for enhancing the competencies of individual employees by facilitating programs to increase employee workplace performance in alignment with our clinical quality goals.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Works independently to coordinate training programs that include but are not limited to new staff competency verification, assistance and development of annual competency skills day, and development of the Grow your Own Program skills verification.

3. *Designs, coordinates and facilitates comprehensive orientation programs for patient support roles which support integration and success in the clinical environment.

4. *Denotes employee participation in courses/programs, progress toward certification requirements and clinical practice progress of new orientees in learning management system.

5. *Provides an appropriate climate for learning, models appropriate adult learning principles to promote individual or group mastery of competencies and conveys nursing principles accurately and concisely in a skills lab setting.

6. *Participates in appropriate committees and collaborates with other Clinical Educators to promote a high standard of care by licensed and non-licensed staff; participates in the development of department and organization procedures; supports department and organization decisions.

7. *Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure they maintain and enhance professional development.

8. *Participates in the ongoing development of clinical skills, knowledge and required competencies for patient support roles.

9. Assumes responsibility in shared, delegated, or collaborative assignments; leads and participates on planning committees/focus groups for patient support education needs/goals.

10. Attends all professional development meetings (Clinical Council); obtains and maintains expertise to support position.

11. Keeps informed of new developments in the organization and in the health care industry; participates in continuing education to aid in ongoing development.

12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

13. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

14. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

2. Knowledge of the principles of nursing theory and clinical applications.

3. Knowledge of teaching/learning principles and applications

4. Knowledge of credentialing requirements for nursing.

5. Knowledge of nursing continuing education requirements in Nebraska.

6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

7. Skill in the operation of instructional media and communication/information devices.

8. Skill in effective meeting management and facilitation.

9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

12. Ability to incorporate adult learning principles and diverse teaching strategies within orientation and educational initiatives.

13. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work projects and manage time and quality for self and others.

14. Ability to work independently, take direction and work collaboratively with others.

15. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

16. Ability to develop effective working relationships with coworkers and various department personnel.

17. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Minimum of three (3) years experience in nursing practice required. Prior experience in teaching preferred.

 

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
