GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for working with the orthopedic surgeons and assigned staff in the treatment of bone and joint injuries. Involves the application and removal of casts, splints and braces along with education for patients on proper care, in the outpatient, hospital, and Emergency Department (ED) setting.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Applies, adjusts, and removes casts based on the direction of the provider.
3. *Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices at the direction of the provider.
4. *Provides education to patients and their families on proper care of casts, splints, and braces.
5. *Consults with patients by phone and contacts provider if there are concerns.
6. *Documents care in patient Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
7. Maintains inventory of casting supplies and equipment, checks expiration dates of supplies, stocks and cleans clinic and exam rooms as needed.
8. Assists the clinical staff in the exam rooms when necessary and as time allows.
9. Works as a team member while focusing on wait times, accuracy, and turnaround times for the patients to see providers.
10. Responsible for knowing and following all environmental, health and safety rules, policies, and procedures for work area and takes responsibility to ensure that personal work activity is conducted in such a way so as to not affect the safety of themselves or others.
11. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
12. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
13. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience as a casting technician, nursing assistant, medical assistant, and/or other related profession preferred. Completion of educational courses related to casting preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
